>> reporter: a lot went wrong tonight. it started on the mound. jordan zimmerman got the start and in five regular season games he has yet to win one of them against the cardinals. not the greatest of stats to take into today's playoff game. jordan zimmerman lasted a season-low three innings. he gave up seven hits and three runs in the process. zimmerman wasn't the only problem on the mound. the nats shuffled out seven different pitchers today and in all they gave up 12 runs. the cardinals crushed the nats 12-4. our dave owens has been in st. louis the past few days covering the nationals angle. tonight he slips the script a little bit. what do st. louis fans think of the nats phenomenon? it turns out they've got a little advice for us washingtonians when it comes to baseball. >> we're from washington, d.c. we're following the nationals. and we're asking some questions. >> did you ever think you would be playing the washington nationals? >> no. >> right? >> no.

good advice there. i'm sure a lot of national fans already taking them up on that advice. dave will bring us the players reaction to game two loss a little later in sports. plus we look ahead to the first- ever playoff game in nationals park history. derek? a little more sports news tonight, encouraging news about redskins quarterback rg3. coach mike shanahan is optimistic that griffin will play on sunday against minnesota despite that concussion he got yesterday. as everybody knows by now, griffin took a hit that shook the whole redskins nation. he was knocked out of the game in the third quarter as the team was losing to atlanta. diagnosis, mild concussion. griffin has been undergoing tests and doctors will monitor him all week long. shanahan says as of now things are looking up. >> he's feeling good. no dizziness, no headaches, no vomiting. he feels like he's done well on the tests that he's taken thus far. >> no dizziness, no headaches, no vomiting. that's what we want to hear.

griffin will undergo a treadmill test tomorrow. shanahan does say if there are any set books along the way, kirkusens or rex grossman will be at quarterback on saturday. >> how do intelligencists beige -- how do specialists gauge? they look at it hours and days later. it's mild traumatic brain injuries that won't necessarily show up on a ct scan or an mri but damage from repeat concussions adds up especially if the brain doesn't have enough time to heal. >> if the head injury is repeated over and over again, it's going to have an impact not only on short-term but long- term basis. so it's important to pick up on that. really you need time. the basis of deciding when a person returns to this sport is when they return back to their normal state. >> the doctor also says the amount of time a person blacks

out at impact and how much memory they lose, these are key indicators to how severe the concussion is. a new poll is out tonight showing mitt romney ahead in the race for president. all this following last thursday's debate. according to the pew research center, 49% of likely voters are favoring romney. 45% like president obama. just last month, romney was trailing obama by 9 points and of course, as we just mentioned, now he's ahead. romney told cadets at the virginia military institute he will strengthen america's defense as commander-in-chief. he also said president obama s failed to lead on the world stage, especially in the middle east. >> it's clear that the risk of conflict in the region is higher now than when the president took office. >> romney said he would work to stablize the new government in libya and egypt and help to arm syrian rebels trying to overthrow the regime.

supposed to do to keep america safe. john is a law professor at g.w. >> 234eu of my students who get less than 75, i'll fail them. here the tsa itself says its agents failed 85, in me cases 100% of the time. everybody should be scared and outraged. >> reporter: the tsa's secret shoppers found screeners caught prohibited items and took appropriate action less than 25% of the time. that they followed proper pat- down procedures less than 17% of the time, and that they failed 100% of the time to tell people that they could opt out of a full body scan and go with a pat-down. >> all the terrorist have to do is get through once. >> reporter: the tsa has lately been experimenting with something it calls behavioral detection, instead of a physical pat down it's like a

verbal chat down. he says this report proves it is a giant waste of time. >> the idea that they're going to be trained to look for my micro expression or tremor in my voice because i'm a terrorist, that's crazy. >> reporter: the newark inveigation is the only one leaked publicly so far. but if it's that bad at newark, a lot of people worry about failures at other airports, too. bruce leshan, 9 news now. >> a tsa spokeswoman says the agency constantly evaluates its workers in the effort to improve performance. in tonight's health alert, the number of people sick by a deadly meningitis outbreak now hitting 105. 8 have died. most of the cases are in virginia, tennessee and michigan. also some cases in maryland. doctors expect the numbers to grow over the next few weeks because there's an incubation period. all the patients got fungal meningitis from steroid injections from pain. all right, caught on tape,

two brides, one brawl. a fight broke out between two wedding parties at a downtown philadelphia hotel over the weekend. >> that fight not only ruined two weddings but may have led to one death. >> reporter: the all-out brawl erupted just before 2:00 a.m. sunday morning at the sheraton society hill hotel in philadelphia. when police arrived they found nearly 100 people from two different wedding parties going at it in the lobby bar. at one point, officers used batons to try to pull two men off each other. one man gets tossed to the ground. and in the middle of the melee, a woman in a long dress can be seen falling to the floor. >> did they just deck the bride? >> reporter: 15-year-old matt who was in town with his family captured the chaotic scene on his cell phone. >> they started punching each other and hitting each other. the police came in and started clubbing people. >> reporter: several people were injured. one man believed to be the

uncle of one of the brides suffered a heart attack and died at a local hospital. in a statement sunday, the sheraton hotel said, we continue to cooperate with authorities. our sincerest condolences go out to the family for their loss. police haven't said what caused the fight, but they believe alcohol played a role. >> the sheraton couldn't really do much. it was out of their hands. there were too many people, probably had too much to drink. it was bedlam. >> reporter: following thescuffle, at least three people were taken into custody, but authorities are reviewing the tape to see if more arrests need to be made. for cbs this morning, new york. >> a rough outing indeed. 15-year-old max was actually celebrating his own birthday when he captured the video of that fight. his mama says this is one birthday he will never forget. >> it's just hard to fathom. the cops are there and they still keep brawling. doesn't seem like it would be time. >> beverages. >> beverages are always at the root of most brawls.

east overnight. tomorrow, right now we're looking at showers south. tomorrow morning most of the showers kind of into southern maryland. maybe prince george's county and maybe into calvert county and also into st. mary's coun as well. we look at also some activity even into the evening hours down to the south. so clouds are going to be very hard to shake south and east of town. you're up in frederick and hagerstown and martinsburg tomorrow, you'll have a pretty good afternoon, albeit on the chilly side. after that, things really improve for everybody on wednesday and thursday. you still need a jacket on tuesday. the kids, you still need a jacket at the bus stop. most of the showers will be south and east of town. so southern prince george's county, charles county, calvert county, st. mary's county, that area. improving on wednesday. actually a cold front goes through wednesday but ironically it will be a nicer day. thursday much better. perhaps a little bit cooler but a lot more sunshine. drier air finally moves in. for overnight, we'll say mostly cloudy.

apiece. here's more with dave owens from st. louis. >> reporter: it's supposed to be the strength of the ball club but for the second consecutive day, washington got shaking starting pitching. unlike sunday when geo gonzalez was able to minimize the damage, today jordan zimmerman not so much. >> i wanted to go out and go deep in the game and try to get out of here with two wins. i didn't do my part. >> they kept pouring on runs. we never -- we jumped out ahead 1-0 and that was about the story right there, you know. >> reporter: for the third time in four games, st. louis put double digit runs on the nats. how does washington regain that momentum? they'll be at home, but can this young team get it done in maybe the most pivotal game of the year? >> it's easy to play when they're waving the white towels for you. hopefully if we get home our fans are ready for us, they bring it kind of like they did. >> he's one of the strongest pitchers in the post-season. >> biggest game you guys have had this far? >> probably.
